Alchemy Capital is a private investment firm based in New York City with a focus on lower middle market consolidation strategies. We target companies in growing industries with recurring revenue characteristics and strong management teams who remain as significant investors. Through our collective experience and extensive executive network of Operating Advisors, we partner with our management teams by providing “mega fund” resources to the lower middle market.
Alchemy was the Hermetic science of causing transformation, both physically and personally. At Alchemy Capital, we draw on the spirit of this tradition by taking an operating approach to investing, looking to help our management teams to transform our investments into world-class leaders in their sectors, and to provide growth and development opportunities to the entire employee base. This transformation is accomplished through value creation plans formed at the start of an investment to create alignment, consolidation strategies employing the appropriate level of integration, and supplementing the management teams with world-class resources. However, while we are active investors, our influence remains at the board level as we always respect the lines between governance and management.
Alchemy Capital was founded in 2018 by Bill Coughlin after spending nearly twenty years at OMERS Private Equity and Aurora Capital. He has spent his investment career focused on industrials and business services sectors, and has sat on the boards of numerous investments, including ADCO, Kenan Advantage, K&F Industries, IMPAXX, Mitchell International, MMM Group, and United Plastics Group. Bill graduated from Harvard Business School and Claremont McKenna College, and has been personally active in the education sector, having started a charter school in East Los Angeles (Futuro College Prep).
Alchemy invests in North American based opportunities in the industrials and business services sectors. We look for companies in fragmented industries that exhibit multiple avenues of growth, particularly through consolidation strategies, operating improvements and growth initiatives. Some of our target segments include:
We target cash flow-positive companies with up to $10 million in EBITDA and look to invest up to $30 million in each initial platform investment. Our capital base comes from leading family offices and high net-worth individuals, and enables a long-term perspective to investment management.
